What is SAP ?

The query on regardless of whether SAP will be the finest Enterprise Resource Planning software package system on the market is something which is tough to response but one particular point is specified, SAP could be the biggest of all of them. Acquiring the largest industry reveal and more than forty thousand consumers throughout the world (in the US it’s reportedly utilized by 10 from the leading ten organizations, SAP could possibly claim it truly is without a doubt the best.
What are the attributes of this ERP System? Properly, SAP has all of the traits a great ERP system should have. It does all which is anticipated of it and after that a lot more. 1st it has the modular performance wherever it could provide answers for every one of the core facets of a business. It’s got modules for financials, human resource, warehousing and provide chain, client relations management (also called CRM), offline and online income management, etc. These modules provide sufficient overall flexibility this kind of that it may be reconfigured and custom-made according towards the requirements from the business.
Furthermore, it includes a builder’s suite that will be employed to build custom computer software the core modules can’t offer. SAP has its very own programming language called the ABAP or Sophisticated Business Application Programming which it utilizes to make custom apps. In the event you learn this language, deemed to get relatively simple, you’ll be set for a very good occupation in SAP consulting.
Getting widely used also affords it to get be on the list of most rewarding job choice for all those fortunate plenty of to have trained into it. SAP consulting is huge currently especially taking into consideration the number of organizations use this ERP solution for his or her business intelligence wants. Turning out to be a SAP professional is probably the best job route to consider right now should you be in a very skilled while in the area of business.
Why are SAP specialists in need? Effectively, fundamentally that is because of the fact that SAP has grown into these an enormous and difficult system that no person can maintain mastery about it. In-house personnel of firms adopting this system will almost never reduce it and for this reason they search for consultants who may have expended a lot of time honing their expensive knowledge to help them create their system.
So not simply is SAP one of the top rated business computer software solutions, it is also among the leading profession options. SAP is simply with the top today and it really is once and for all purpose and it is undoubtedly nicely deserved. SAP was borne out of a vision of 5 founding engineers for the business computer software application that will provide data in genuine time to help the company’s management in decision-making. It’s definitely arrived at that vision and in some cases surpassed it as it has become one of the greatest model of how filling a require is usually a fantastic business technique.

How to troubleshoot transport problem

Hi All,

Recently i have faced a issue with long running transports the reasons is some corrupted transports. So once you met this error you will not be able to even transport any other request. So here is the procedure through which you can resolve any issue related to STMS

1.) Ask everybody to leave the STMS transaction

2.) Ensure that there are no running transports (I mean currently
started) and kill all "tp" processes on all application server of BWP

3.) Copy to another location the content of /usr/sap/trans/tmp
afterwards truncate the content of /usr/sap/trans/tmp

4.) Delete the content of TRBAT and TRJOB tables on BWP if they
containing some entries

5.) Please take a screenshot of the Import Monitor of BWP and after that delete the entry within

6.) Start the failing imports again.

Understanding BAPI: The most powerful tool in the SAP consultant's kit

SAP R/3 is typical of enterprise platforms in that it forces its users to reconceptualize the way information is used in a company. Integration and data transport become the keywords, and data ceases to be treasure in the vault—it becomes a living thing, flowing through the company like water.

Think of the pre-ERP universe as a series of small lakes, some connected, some not. Each lake (company) is filled with data. Occasionally, boats venture from the shore to the middle of the lake for some data. Occasionally, one of these boats transfers data from one lake to another.

With the advent of ERP, a canal system—SAP R/3—is installed. A vast network of bidirectional waterways takes the place of the lakes. Small, powerful ships and barges populate these waterways, keeping data in constant motion.

For the SAP consultant, IDocs are the barges. And Business Application Programming Interfaces—BAPIs—are the small, powerful ships that keep these barges of data moving.

First in a series
This is the first installment in a series that examines the significance of Business Application Programming Interfaces, how to use them, and their role in designing applications.

Building canals for the client
An understanding of how SAP changes the structure of a business is the first conceptual step in becoming an effective SAP consultant. A solid knowledge of SAP’s data-handling mechanisms, of which BAPI is the most central, is the first practical step.

BAPI is the most powerful tool in the SAP consultant’s toolkit. Think of a BAPI as a business object—say, a master record, such as a client profile, or a transactional record, such as an invoice. It’s easy to confuse a BAPI with an IDoc (another central SAP data transport feature). The difference is that IDocs are about moving data between systems or modules; BAPIs are about calling data in and out of SAP in the first place.

Their place in SAP and your toolbox
SAP R/3 arrives with a bundle of BAPIs ready for your immediate use. There are several hundred of them, in categories such as accounting, human resources, and logistics. They perform a vast array of functions, from creating jobs in SAP to launching IDocs, from posting sales orders to changing passwords, from listing employee benefits to tracking a shipment. They can be used out of the box or modified to create new business objects specific to your client’s needs.

BAPI is one of a set of tools at your disposal for interfacing with an SAP R/3 system. It’s important to understand its role among them, and to have an idea of what each does in relation to the other.

SAP Assistant
This stand-alone program is, in essence, the toolbox you carry with you as a hands-on SAP consultant. Its contents give you access to SAP R/3’s objects. All the information you need for setting up remote function calls from outside SAP is found here. Most importantly, SAP Assistant holds your set of keys to SAP’s business objects, allowing you access to what’s there, and enabling you to create what you need (see Figure A).

Figure A
Where BAPI fits in among SAP automation components

Remote Function Calls
BAPI is ultimately a mechanism for getting data out of SAP R/3. If a BAPI is a ship pushing a barge (data), the engine of that ship is a Remote Function Call (RFC). An RFC is a function module in a system that is called from some other system. This, of course, covers a great deal of ground. The two systems can both be SAP, or they can be different platforms, or an RFC may be used on the spot in real time by any party making an inquiry of an SAP system from the outside (including you, sitting at your laptop).

How do RFCs relate to BAPIs? An RFC is the means by which the business object represented by a BAPI is implemented. A BAPI is a business object; an RFC is functional code.

The Business Object Repository
A great deal goes on in the Business Object Repository (BOR), and you must know it well. It’s not overstating the case to say that the BOR is the core of SAP. If an SAP R/3 system can be described as the animation of otherwise lifeless data, the BOR describes the living cells of this new body. Cells come in many different types, and that’s what the BOR holds: all the different types of data comprising an SAP system of databases.

The BOR’s contents essentially define the implementing company’s business model. The information it holds includes the definitions of all business objects internal to the company, as well as the defining information of all interfaces to other companies.

Another new language
BAPI is, like many aspects of SAP R/3, another new lexicon of concepts, terms, and tools a consultant must absorb to be effective. However, it will rapidly be clear to even a less experienced consultant that these concepts are firmly rooted in the object-oriented methodology that is now every IT professional’s stock-in-trade.

It is critical that you, as an SAP consultant, understand the dynamic nature of data handling in an SAP environment, the manner in which this mutates business processes, and most importantly, the way in which BAPI and related tools interface with this new, living database. Once you understand these concepts, the hands-on skills to create applications become simple.

How to configure printer on SAP Server

The configuration of the spool system is a system administration task. The central tool for this is transaction SPAD.

· To create an output device, choose Output Devices on the Devices / Servers tab page. If there is already a large number of devices in your system, you can restrict the output list in the field next to the button.
Important information for a device:
1)Output device
Name, maximum of 30 characters long (case-sensitive).

2) Short name
For internal system purposes (can be automatically generated).

3) Device type
Printer model/family (more information about this below). The device type SWIN transfers the SAP system format to the Microsoft Windows printer driver. This is useful, for example, if various printers are used for front end printing in a Microsoft Windows environment.

4) Spool server
SAP application server with spool work processes or logical server.

5) Location
For example, building and room number (so that users can find their output).

6) Message
Used to temporarily override the location (such as .Is currently in maintenance.)
7) Lock printer in SAP system
Output requests for printers for which this indicator is selected are created but not transferred to the printer. The user receives the message ...no immediate printing.

8) Host spool access method
How does a spool work process contact the operating system spooler?

9) Host printer
Name of the printer at operating system level. Note that this name is case-sensitive. Under Microsoft Windows, there must not be a space in the printer name, and network printers are addressed using their UNC names (in the format \\\). The specification __DEFAULT calls the defaultMicrosoftWindows printer (for example, for front end printing in a Microsoft Windows environment).

10)Host
Only for local printing, is calculated automatically from the spool server.

11) Destination hosts
Only for remote printing. Name of the host on which the operating system spooler (such as lpd or saplpd) is running.

Transaction on SAP System

A transaction in SAP terminology is the execution of a program. The normal way of executing ABAP code in the SAP system is by entering a transaction code (for instance, SE51 is the code for the ABAP workbench). Transactions can be accessed via system-defined or user-specific, role-based menus. They can also be started by entering their transaction code (a mnemonic name of up to 20 characters) in the special command field, which is present in every SAP screen. Transactions can also be invoked programmatically by means of the ABAP statements CALL TRANSACTION and LEAVE TO TRANSACTION. Transaction codes can also be linked to screen elements or menu entries. Selecting such an element will start the transaction. The term "transaction" must not be misunderstood here: in the context just described, a transaction simply means calling and executing an ABAP program. In application programming, "transaction" often refers to an indivisible operation on data, which is either committed as a whole or undone (rolled back) as a whole. This concept exists in SAP but is there called a LUW (Logical Unit of Work). In the course of one transaction (program execution), there can be different LUWs.

Let’s have a look at the different kind of transactions:

1) Dialog transaction
These are the most common kind of transactions. The transaction code of a dialog transaction is linked to a Dynpro of an ABAP program. When the transaction is called, the respective program is loaded and the Dynpro is called. Therefore, a dialog transaction calls a Dynpro sequence rather than a program. Only during the execution of the Dynpro flow logic are the dialog modules of the ABAP program itself are called. The program flow can differ from execution to execution. You can even assign different dialog transaction codes to one program.

2) Parameter transaction
In the definition of a parameter transaction code, a dialog transaction is linked with parameters. When you call a parameter transaction, the input fields of the initial Dynpro screen of the dialog transaction are filled with parameters. The display of the initial screen can be inhibited by specifying all mandatory input fields as parameters of the transaction.

3) Variant transaction
In the definition of a variant transaction code, a dialog transaction is linked with a transaction variant. When a variant transaction is accessed, the dialog transaction is called and executed with the transaction variant. In transaction variants, you can assign default values to the input fields on several Dynpro screens in a transaction, change the attributes of screen elements, and hide entire screens. Transaction variants are maintained in transaction SHD0.

4) Report transaction
A report transaction is the transaction code wrapping for starting the reporting process. The transaction code of a report transaction must be linked with the selection screen of an executable program. When you execute a report transaction, the runtime environment internally executes the ABAP statement SUBMIT—more to come on that.

5) OO transaction
A new kind of transaction as of release 6.10. The transaction code of an OO transaction is linked with a method of a local or global class. When the transaction is called, the corresponding program is loaded, for instance methods an object of the class is generated and the method is executed.

SAP Basis Tools : Niping

Niping is a testing program developed by SAP to enhance TCP/IP and UDP layer function. Network Interface (NI) is used by SAPRouter and all SAP programs to provide independency of various communication. The enhanced TCP/IP and UDP Protocol is called SAP Protocol which provide one field length more and error information. This program simply send request to the server, then read the reply from server. Niping mostly uses to test connection to SAP server with or without SAP Router. Niping also provides enhancement communication through the firewall or proxy server.
Niping syntax
Example niping command (with or without SAProuter),
host1 : saprouter -r //start saprouter in host1
host2 : niping -s //this will emulate a test server
host3 : niping -c -H host2 //this will test connection to host2 without SAProuter
host3 : niping -c -H /H/host1/H/host2 //this will test connection to host2 with SAProuter
niping -t //this is for self test which will display a result *** SELFTEST O.K. *** if connection OK
